Josephine Brunsvik, thoughtful and passionate; the captivating Giulietta Guicciardi; and the intelligent, independent Therese Malfatti each offer the possibility of love, yet each relationship is shaped by the rigid social conventions of early nineteenth-century Europe. Meanwhile, a powerful aristocrat, determined to keep Beethoven in his place, becomes an increasingly dangerous adversary.
